The National Broadcasting Commission, NBC, says it fined up to 121 broadcast stations between January and March, 2018 for various offences that brought the integrity of broadcasting trade to disrepute.
The fines were on offences committed by 70 stations, whose broadcasts contained inciting political statements and Hateful broadcasts, 22 for vulgar lyrics on musicals and videos, with 29 for trado-medic advertisements and unverifiable claims.
Some of the stations, according to NBC, included CCOL FM Music; MBS Musical Keffi; Prestige FM; Ray Power and Kogi FM among others.
In a statement the Commission said all the stations were either queried or sanctioned, accordingly, to the provisions of the Nigeria Broadcasting Code.
The Commission therefore urged all the broadcast stations to operate by the rules and re-emphasise that all broadcasters must adhere strictly to the provisions of the Nigeria Broadcasting Code and the National Broadcasting Act CAP N11 Laws of the Federation, 2004.
